HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
The House of Representatives met at. 2.30 o'clock this afternoon. Mr. S. G. Holland (National, Christchurch North) gave notice to ask the Minister of Health (the Hon. P. Fraser) whether his attention had been directed to numerous statements appearing in newspapers in various parts of New Zealand expressing alarm concerning the efforts of the recently gazetted hours of work for private hospitals and i the danger of private maternity hospi-l tals having to close down because of difficulty in securing the services of a sufficient number of trained nurses required to staff the institutions under the new regulations. "Will the Minister issue instructions that where sufficient nurses are not available to comply, with the regulations, the regulations will not be enforced?1 * Mr. Holland asked. EDUCATION BILL. • On behalf of the Recess Education Committee, Mr. C. Carr (Government, Timaru) reported that the Committee [ had heard extensive evidence on the I Education Amendment Bill, 1938, and after having given careful considera- | tion to the proposals, approved of the principles embodied in the Bill and recommended that it should be reintroduced this session with such alterations and amendments as were suggested by the proceedings before the Committee.
