NO FALLING OFF
AUSTRALIAN BUILDING
More than one New Zealander on his ; return from a visit to Australia has referred to the amount of building construction in Sydney and Melbourne. According to Mr. C. H. Mitchell, Wellington architect, who arrived by the Wanganella today after a short business visit, there is no sign yet of any slackening off in building construction, either in Melbourne or Sydney. Mr. Mitchell added that' some beautiful work was being done, too, particularly in Sydney.
Mr. Mitchell's visit to Sydney was for the purpose of arranging for the signing of the contract, for the building of the modern nine-storey office block in Wellington for the Mutual Life and pitizens' Assurance Co., Ltd., the headquarters of which are in Sydney. The successful tenderer for this building was announced in yesterday's "Post." An interesting experience enjoyed by Mr. Mitchell during his visit to Victoria was a journey in the new- train, "Spirit of Progress," which runs between Albury and Melbourne. Mr. Mitchell spoke very enthusiastically of this train and the fast, comfortable travelling it afforded. The smoothness of the travelling, he said, was such as to give the impression that the train was running on pneumatic tyres.
