A LUCKY OWNER
HON. P. BEATTY'S PURCHASE
(From "The Post's" Representative.)
LONDON, June 18. The Hon. Peter Beatty, owner of the Derby winner Bois Roussel, continues to be very much in the limelight. Only 24 hours before the Ascot Meeting he bought a horse from Prince Aly Khan. This was Foxglove 11, a French-bred colt, for whom he gave £1000. He is by Foxhunter, who won the Ascot Gold Cup five years ago, and Foxhunter was by Foxlaw, so that English blood-predominates, especially as his dam, Staylace, goes back to Son-in-Law.
In a field of 21, Foxglove II won the Gold Vase by a length and a half from Solonaise with ,Michoumy beaten a neck for second place. The event is run over two miles. Gordon Richards rode the winner, and Mr. F. Darling gets the credit as trainer of the colt, but he only left Mr. F. Butters's Newmarket stable the day before. Mr. Butters trains for H.H. Aga Khan and his son, Prince Aly Khan.
