TRENTHAM PARKING
COUNCIL'S POSITION
EXPLAINED
The position of the Upper Hutt Borough Council in regard to parking on race days at Trentham was explained yesterday by the Town Clerk (Mr. B. M. Wilmshurst). He stated that the council had not been under any misapprehension in arriving, at a decision to open all streets at Trentham for parking during the race week. However, after the decision was published the Wellington Racing Club, the Automobile Association, and the Transport Department informed the council that-the system of traffic control for this week's meeting had been finalised on the basis of arrangements existing at the previous meeting. The council, therefore, agreed that as time was not sufficient to alter the existing arrangements without inconvenience to the club, the association, and the Department, it would allow the former arrangement to continue for this meeting.
Nevertheless, the resolution to keep all streets open still stood, and would be the subject of consideration at the next meeting of the council.
The operation of the council's resolution was merely suspended for the period of this race meeting.
