SET CAR ALIGHT
CHRISTCHURCH INCIDENT
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.
After a quarrel, Leonard Keith Aldridge set alight to another man's car. The offence occurred on June 5. This morning Aldridge was charged in the Magistrate's Court with committing mischief to the extent of £10 and with being" drunk in a public place. On the first charge he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within two years if called upon, subject to repayment of £10 at the rate of £3 10s a month. He was also ordered to take out a prohibition order. On the- charge of drunkenness he was convicted and discharged.
Aldridge, said Sub-Inspector Packer, had gone to Tuam Street on account of some trouble. He said that he had gone "to have.it out" with another man, but he had been ordered out of the kitchen of a house. He had called out, "I will get even with you yet," and a. few minutes afterwards someone knocked at the door of the house to say a car near the house was in flames. Two boys, continued the Sub-Inspector, had seen the accused running away, and Aldridge later admitted setting the car alight. The trouble in the first place was due to Aldridge's drinking habits.
"If you make any default or come back again you will get no option," said Mr. E. C. Lewey, S.M., to the accused. ■
