VETERINARY SURGEONS "New Zealand continues to remain free, from the more serious animal diseases which affect stock in other countries, a position which is very carefully guarded by the Department of Agriculture in the matter of quarantine," said the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. W. L. Martin) at the Veterinary Association's conference ' today. "We have, however, the more ! common diseases of stock, which un- ' fortunately are responsible for heavy ■ financial loss to the stock owner, and ' it is in the prevention of those 1 diseases that the veterinary profession ' is called upon to put forth its best : efforts. Although numerically not 5 very large, the Association of t Veterinarians is a very important 2 body, representing as it does those in 1 New Zealand who are responsible for > the animal health of the Dominion. * The importance of the health of aur live stock cannot be over-estimated. - New Zealand is to a great extent de--1 pendent upon her live stock, and the 1 quality of our export primary products . will largely depend upon the health 1 and condition of our flocks and herds. - Therefore, the veterinarian occupies a i very important role in the economic life of the country."
