THEFT OF OVERCOAT

Pleading guilty to the theft on June 5 of an overcoat, scarf, and glove, the property of Evan Julian, Ronald McDonald Gilroy, a labourer, aged 22, appeared before Mr. H. P. Lawry, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today.

Detective-Sergeant P. Doyle said that on the night of June 5 Mr. Julian left the coat in the vestibule of a Wellington dance-hall. When he returned for it, he found it had been taken. Last Saturday night, he found that the coat had been checked in, and notified the police. Detective G. Hogan watched until the accused claimed it. The coat had been altered to fit the accused.

Gilroy was admitted to probation for two years, a condition being that he should make restitution.
