For the theft of two men's overcoats, - valued at £3. 15s, John Henry Coley was sentenced to seven days' impnson.raent/which is to be added to a sentence heis now serving. For negligent, driving, Michael John O'Grady was fined £3 and costs. Constable F. J. Williams said that the defendant was driving his car from Blenheim Street into the main road and cut a corner, striking a woman who was riding a bicycle. . ■ For not having a warrant of fitness for his vehicle, Frederick Arthur Wright was- fined 10s and costs. Fines were imposed as follows in these cases of riding bicycles without lights:—Leonard Harold Stevenson, 5s < and costs; Neil Edgeworth, Richard . Dobson, Arnold James Neal.'Adien Connelly, and Arnold Mountier, each 10s and costs. , Euan 'Robert .William Bldwell was fined £2.and costs for negligent driving, and was Ordered to pay costs for damaging a.telegraph pole. Mr. J. H. Lawson said that Bidwell was a farmer In the Wairarapa district, and about 5 a.m. on April 3 he was driving through Kaitoke on his way home". He was tired after a long spell of farm i work and fell asleep, with the tssult •: that'he crashed into a telegraph pole. He and his friend were injured, and the damage done to the pole and wires! cost £28 10s to repair. ~ I William Mervyn .Johnson was fined 30s and costs for driving at such a speed that he could not pull up in half the length of roadway 7 visible ahead. 1 For driving without due care and at-] tention, Richard Henry Webb was ordered to pay costs. Vivian Murphy was fined £ 1 and costs for exceeding .the licensed load with a heavy traffic vehicle, and for a similar offence John Mitchell, was fined 30s and costs. Fines were imposed as follows. in the following, cases where 30 miles an hour was exceeded:—Kenneth George Bradshaw (40), Thomas Vivian Caverhill (45), Albert John Higgs (45), £3. each and costs; Briton Napier Land (40), £2 and costs; Robert Charles Forrest .(40),,William. Kelly (40), John ■ Edwin Bowman (40), and Edwin Alfred Goldsmith. (40), 30s each and costs. Goldsmith was fined £1 and costs for not having a driver's licence. William Henry Bennett, whose speed was 55 m.p.h., was fined £3 and costs for driving'at a speed which might have been dangerous to the public, and. on similar charges Frank Vivian Mince Was fined £3 and costs and Felix Patrick Anthony Campbell, £2 and costs.
