GISBORNE APPEAL CASE
» •• • '—■' Decision was reserved by the Court of Appeal today in the case in which Frederick Thomas Hall, a painter, of Gisborne, appealed against a Supreme Court judgment delivered by Mr. Justice Blair, in Gisborne last March. The respondent in the case was The Guardian Trust and Executors Company of New Zealand, Ltd., and the point at issue involved the ownership of certain lands. On the Bench were the Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers), Mr. Justice Kennedy, and Mr. Justice Johnston. Mr. W. D. Lysnar appeared for the appellant, and Mr. P. B. Cooke, K.C., and Mr. J. G. Nolan conducted the case for the respondent company.
No fewer than 1624 new connections were added to the telephone exchange system last month, stated the Post-master-General (the Hon. F. Jones) yesterday. After allowing for relinquishments, the net gain in subscribers for the month was 792, thus maintaining the substantial monthly ■ increase which had been regularly in evidence during the last two years. The total number of subscribers now stood at 149,379.
