CHILDREN'S HOMES
GOVERNMENT GRANTS PROFITS FROM ART UNIONS The Government . has decided to make grants to the trustees of the various registered children's homes in the Dominion on the basis of £2 per head for each child inmate,. The money will be allocated from the accumulated surplus profits of art unions conducted for the relief of distress. "The money the Government- purposes to allocate to the children's homes and orphanages," stated the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) today, "should help' the institutions and their charges a great deal, particularly during the winter months. Inquiries make it apparent that some of the homes are in need of funds for their present work and its extension. The money being available, none better than the homes for the little ones merits the grants to be made." The allocations would be made, the Minister added, on receipt by the Department of Internal Affairs of applications from the trustees or management of the homes, which would be considered up to July 15.
