NEW GUINEA CAPITAL
A CHANGE TO SALAMAUA (Received Juntf.s3, 9.50 a.m.) , CANBKJmA, This Day. The Federal Cabtert has decided that Salarriaua will be the future administrative capital of New Guinea, in place of Rabaul, the scene of the volcanic eruption last year. The Minister of External Affairs, Mr. W. M. Hughes, announced that a road would immediately be constructed from Salamaua to Wau, which is the centre of a rich gold-mining area. The cost of setting up the new capital, including harbour works, will be about £350,000.
