WELLINGTON DISTRICT
ANNUAL MEETING
The sixty-sixth annual meeting of the Wellington District Ancient Order or Foresters was held recently, delegates attending from most parts of the 5 district. Bro. E. Sanvig, District Chief i Ranser, presided, and early in the . proceedings welcomed, among other visitors, Messrs. R. Sinel and G. E. ,' Bradley, Registrar and Deputy Registrar of the Friendly Societies' Depart--1 ment. ! It was decided to erect a memorial ' to the late district secretary, Bro. A. 1 W. O. Travers, in Karori Cemetery. i Feeling reference was made to the sterling worth of this member and to . his work for the society over twentytwo years. In his address to the assembled delegates, the District Chief Ranger mentioned the increase in membership during the past year, and also mentioned the activities of the Dominion Friendly Societies' Council respecting the proposed scheme of National Health Insurance. Many commendations were made upon the splendid work of the three District Trustees, Bros. E. E. Stoupe, F. Piatt, and D. Gilchrist. A pair of handsome gavels and gavel , blocks were presented by Bro. G. H. Adams, on behalf of Court Northland, which were gretefully accepted. It was decided to assist those members in the Hawke's Bay A.O.F. Dis- i trict who had been affected by the j recent floods. The Smithson Shield, presented an- ; nually to the court obtaining the larg- j est percentage/increase in membership, i was presented to Court Bloomfield. , As the next triennial meeting will be held in Wellington in 1940, arrangements were commenced to fittingly celebrate the centenary of the gathering. The election of officers resulted as follows:—District Chief Ranger. Bro. c H. Boniface; Immediate Past District v Chief Ranger, Bro. F. Sanvig; District f Sub-Chief Ranger, Bro. F. W. Murphy; a District Secretary, Bro. L. J. Retallick; fc District Treasurer, Bro. F. W. Ward; t District Senior Woodward, Bro. T. E. g Hogarth; District Junior Woodward, Bro. J. Fisher; District Senior Beadle, Bro. G. W. Key. jun.; District Junior Beadle, Bro. E. E. Anset. The installation ceremony was performed by three Past District Chief Rangers, Bros. H. C. Gronn, W. S. Smith, and G. E. Taylor. / Presentations were made to Bro. C. Edwards, retiring District Officer, and to Bro. F. Sanvig, Immediate Past District Chief Ranger.
