With the following headline, "Dominion proves forty-hour case," "Tha Daily Herald" gives prominence to a report from Geneva of the speech of the New Zealand Government delegate, Mr. J. Thorn, at the International Labour Office Conference; in which, are quoted statistics indicating in« creases in the number of workers and also in production during 1935-37.

Mr. Thorn admitted that the codt of living had increased by 14J per cent., but said that one-third of tha increase was due to external conditions. In the same period wages and salaries had increased by an aggregate of 42 per cent.

"The fact is that the masses of tha people are better off than ever," said Mr. Thorn. "Moreover, employers are far from ruined, and profits have improved substantially."
