LARGE MAJORITY
SEVEN MINISTERS ELECTED

The latest report of the counting of votes cast, in the Eire General Election gives the following state of parties:— De Valera Party 58 Cosgrove Party 32 Independents 6 Labour 5 Those elected include Mjr. de Valera, who headed the poll at Clare, obtaining 6459 votes in excess of the quota, Mr. Frank Aiken, Minister of Defence, Mr. Oscar Traynor, Minister of Posts and Telegraphs, Mr. Sean MacEntee, Minister of Finance, Mr. S. T. O'Kelly, Deputy-Premier, Dr. J. Ryan, Minister of Agriculture, Mr. W. T. Gosgrave, Leader of the Opposition, and Mr. Alfred Byrne, Lord Mayor of Dublin.
Those defeated include Mr. James Larkin, a prominent trade unionist. Mr. S. F. Lemass, Minister of Trade, was the only one out of thirteen candidates in Dublin South to be elected on the first preference, having more than double the quota.
The final figures in the Free State General Election last July gave Mr. de Valera's party 69 seats, Mr. Cosgrave's party 48, Labour 13, and Independent! 8. Stalemate was overcome by Labour giving its support to Mr. de Valera.
