BRITAIN AND AMERICA

MR. CORDELL HULL CONFIDENT

AGREEMENT SOON

(United Press Association—By Elcctrlo I Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received June 20, 11.10 a.m.) LONDON, June 19. The' Washington correspondent of "The Times" says that the best information now available regarding the Anglo-American trade talks is that the Secretary of State, Mr. Cordell Hull, is confident that an agreemeht will be reached in the not very distant future.

CANADIAN-U.S. TRADE

NEGOTIATIONS FOR PACT HINDERED OTTAWA, June 17. The reluctance of the United States to open up her markets to Canadian farm products is hindering the negotiations for a trade pact. At the moment Mexico is crowding Canadian cattle out of the United States markets. Canada is requesting preference for her products in return for a reduced duty on United States farm implements entering Canada. The same principle applies to other agricultural products. Washington is anxious to effect a pact with the United Kingdom, but London cannot make concessions unless Ottawa agrees to relinquish her preference. This she will not do unless Washington opens the door wider to Canadian farm products. The present pact expires next December.
