CORDIAL WELCOME

TALENTED ORGANIST

There was a wonderfully large gathering on Saturday afternoon at the j reception for Mile. Renee Nizan, the talented organist whose music has given Wellington people so much pleasure. The party was held at the Pioneer Club, where bright and charming decorations of Iceland poppies, berried holly, and native shrubs made a good setting for a very cordial reception.

The British Music Society and Music Teachers' Association were the originators of the party, and were well represented in all branches. Miss Corliss (hon. organiser of the 8.M.5.) made a charming speech of welcome to Mile. Nizan, emphasising her wonderful genius, youth, charm, and fine personality, and said how grateful New Zealand people were to her for extending her already wide tour to come to this country. She had been acclaimed by the Press of both Europe and America as an "outstanding virtuoso in organ music," a wonderful thing for so young a performer. At the age of fourteen she gave her first recital in Paris, followed by recitals in the principal cathedrals of France. When only seventeen she made her extensive -tour in America, and three years later went to Canada. In London she, was equally successful, and from there went to the West Indies, and now, after visiting New Zealand and Australia, she would go to, Belgium. Mr. W. M. Page (president of the 8.M.5.) added his cordial welcome to that of Miss Corliss, and Mile. Nizan replied charmingly in English, speaking of the friendliness of the people of New Zealand which had given her so much pleasure. Some very delightful music was given by Miss Molly Atkinson, who sang "Over the Mountains," a song by Quilter taken from a sixteenth century manuscript, and as an encore the quaint old song "Oh, Dear, What Can the Matter Be?" excellently arranged by Mr. Clement Howe, who played her accompaniments. She also gave "When at Morn" (Schumann). Miss Ava Symons played two violin solos, "Moderato and Allegro," from Sonata in G Minor, by Tartini; "Menuetto," by Kreisler. During the serving of afternoon tea the guests had an opportunity of meeting Mile. Nizan. Among those present'were Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Cachemaille, Mr. and Mrs. Temple White, Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Haggitt, Mr. and Mrs. W. M.
