ANNUAL RACE
MIDWINTER SWIMMERS
Eleven contestants lined up on the starting-board at the Te Aro Baths yesterday morning to contest the Davenport Cup, which is awarded annually to the winner of a race between members of the Early-morning Winter Swimming Club at about this time of. the year.
The morning was a very fine one, and the water temperature of 54 degrees was the warmest in which tne race has been swum. The average temperature would be between 48 and 49 degrees. .
The race was won by H. Bowman, with G. Neal second and R. Backman third. E. Pateman secured fastest time. A special trophy donated by one of the vice-presidents to the oldest competitor was won by G. Harrison, who is over GO. The trophies were presented by the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, a vice-president of the club.
