EVEREST ATTEMPT
MONSOON INTERVENES
(Received June 8, 2 pjn.)' LONDON, June , 5. The correspondent of fh« "Daily Mail" at Kalimpong says that Mr. H. W. Tilman's expedition has retired to the Kharta Valley and'is recuperating after efforts to scale Mount Everest, in which the party did not ascend far beyond the North Col owing to the early arrival of the monsoon, which, ripping across the face of the mountain, makes climbing impossible..
All the climbers are safe, but most of them are weak after influenza. It is understood that two of the.party may remain in Tibet until the monsoon ends, but it is believed such a srnSH party would not tackle the peak.
