SIR ABE BAILEY'S HOPE

(From "The Post's" Representative.) LONDON, May 12. When Sir Abe Bailey sailed from Cape Town for England about ten days ago he remarked to the doctors, who advised against his making the trip so soon after his second, severe operation, that he, must see his colt Golden Sovereign win the Derby. Sir Abe, whose cheery optimism is nearly as great as his courage, has been racing in England for 43 years, and it has always been his great ambition to win the Derby. Three years ago he provided the runner-up to

Bahrarn in Robin Goodfellow, and that is the nearest he has been, as yet, to realising his hopes. . Judging by the manner in which Golden Sovereign won the Newmarket Stakes this week, the black and gold hoops' will be carried in the premier classic by a better colt than was Robin Goodfellow. Sir Abe has won the sympathetic admiration of everyone by the pluck and cheeriness he has shown while he has been laid up. Should he win the Derby the enthusiasm at Epsom will surpass anything that has been seen in recent years on the course.
