MAYOR RETURNS THANKS
The ceremony of installing the Mayor and councillors of the Lower Hutt Borough took place last evening, before a large audience who were the guests of the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Andrews. Mr. Andrews thanked the electors for his re-elec-tion, outlined the progress made by the borough during his years of office, and thanked past councillors for their co-operation.
He expressed his indebtedness to Mr. W. P. Williams, ministers of religion, members of the relief committee, the Red Cross Society, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Plunket, and kindred societies for help in social services; he had also had the co-operation of Sergeant J. W McHolm and the police staff, the postmaster and staff, and adjacent local bodies. Referring to the deaths of Councillors W. Cole and J. Brasell he spoke of their great service to the borough. The borough staff, said the Mayor, had given loyal service and it was due to their services that the borough had got 20s worth of value for every £1 spent.
With, the' councillors who had been returned the people could look forward with every confidence to progress in the future.
After the Mayor had made his declaration, Councillors C. J. Ashton, Win, C. Gregory, W. A. F. Hall, E. P. Hay, H. V. Horlor, A. Marshall, J. Mitchell, W. T. Morrison, and J. E. F. Vogel were sworn in.
Councillor J. Mitchell congratulated the Mayor on his re-election and Councillor J. E. F. Vogel, as the youngest councillor, also spoke.
Councillor Gregory returned thanks to the host and hostess and their helpers.
