END OF FINE WEATHER Special forecast for Wellington:— Fresh to strong northerly winds. Weather mainly fair to cloudy, but unsettled conditions prevailing / after about twenty-four hours. Temperatures mild. The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for north-easterly winds to the north of New Plymouth and Napier. These will be moderate to strong in the far north and will rise to gale force in some exposed positions. Elsewhere northerlies to north-westerlies will prevail, and these will be light to moderate although} 1 increasing about and to the south of Ceok Strait. The/ weather will be mainly fair to fine at first, but it will cloud over and rain will gradually develop in northern and Western districts. Temperatures will still be mild. The anticyclone which for more than a week has been productive of beautifully fine and mild weather is now moving eastward off the North Island. Pressure is falling rapidly in the south with advance of,a depression from the Tasman Sea. At the same time a disturbance is moving slowly towards the north of New Zealand from Norfolk Island, being centred today to the north-east of the North Island. It has already caused very heavy rain there. The recent spell of fine weather, therefore, is drawing to a close, and unsettled conditions may be expected during the latter end of.the wee£ Winds are now north-easterly in direction from Auckland northward, and have freshened considerably. * Elsewhere northerlies to north-westerlies are setting in and these will.freshen about and to the south of Cook Strait. Some scattered light rain fell from Auckland northward last night,' but the weather" otherwise has been fine and mild generally. Clear skies and light winds have been responsible for some light frosts in. places.

Yesterday's maximum and minimum temperatures were 60.6 and 47.3 degrees respectively, and the num- j ber of hours of bright sunshine recorded totalled .7.2. • Christchurch 'had clear weather with a rather cool breeze from the northeast. It was still flhe this morning after another very light frost last night. In Dunedin it has been clear, calm, and sunny, with mild temperatures.
