SOUTH CANTERBURY CARD

The South Canterbury Jocfcey Club's Winter Meeting has attracted excellent fields, and a splendid day's racing seems assured. Several of those engaged were competitors at Ashburton and Southland last Saturday, and the form shown at those meetings may prove a reliable guide. TROTTING BREVITIES.

The Australian-bqred trotter Dick I Redmond showed sfens of better deeds in the near future by finishing a close second in the maiden trot at Claudelands. H is a son of Roy Redmond and should develop itjito a fine squaregaiter with experience. Donor was responsible for an outstanding effort in registering 3mm 13 4-ssec when he finished second on Sat- j urday, and he is the most promising middle-class pacer in sight. The reason for Ginger Jacks disap-| pointing performance cm the first dayi of the Forbury Park Meeting was the extra ground he was forced to cover in the running, but better handled. he made amends on Saturday by sharing the honours with Rocks Ahead. The Waikato trotter Jfloira Bmgen has evidently made a quick recovery from the cold that affected her at Hawera judging by her useiful third at Claudelands. Her turn is not far off.

Considering that he has been racing since 1932 without success; Ahe victory of Kia Kaha at the Waikato Meeting was much overdue, and .he should have paid more than he did on the win machine. There is a good cut of a .novice in the Waikato called Peter Smith, and he should nearly take out next time judging by the promise he. displayed at his last start.
