ASSAULT WITH BOTTLE

PRISON SENTENCE

"Taking a bottle to another man is a matter that cannot be regarded in any venial light. I think the proper course is to sentence this man to a term of imprisonment," said Mr. W. F. Stilwell, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday ;when Andre Pierre De La Hay, a sailor, and native of Belgium, aged 63, was charged with assaulting Hugh Shannon by hitting him with a- bottle. De La' Hay was convicted and sentenced to one month's imprisonment. •

The accused was living at the* Salvation Army home iri' Buckle Street, said Sub-Inspector McLean, There were a number of men there, and amongst them was an old man named Shannon. This man was in bed when the accused came home with a bottle of milk. The accused drank some of the milk, and then for ?ome unknown reason he struck" Shannon, inflicting an injury which required treatment.

Mr. Wild said, that there were'a large number of men in the y room, • and tempers were inclined to" become frayed. In this case the defendant had had some provocation.
