"A BAD CASE"
CAR DRIVER IMPRISONED
"This, to my view, is a worse case than normally comes, before the Court," said Mr. W, F. Stilwell, S.M., jn the Magistrate's Court yesterday when William James Reille, a slaughterman, aged 31, was charged with being intoxicated in charge of a motor-car in Victoria Street.
Sub-Inspector D. A. McLean, who prosecuted, said that a few minutes after 11 o'clock last night a constable saw a car being driven in a very erratic manner, He hired a taxi, caught up with the car, and saw that the driver and passenger were both in a state of drunkenness. The. driver was taken to the Taranaki Street Police Station, where a doctor expressed the opinion that the man was in a state of drunkenness when arrested and would be a menace to the public on a wet night.
The accused, who made no statement on his own behalf was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, his licence was cancelled, and he was prohibited from obtaining another for twelve months. For driving without a licence he was convicted and discharged.
