SHIPMENTS AND KILLINGS
The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board reports that shipments of frozen meat from the Dominion during the period from October 1, 1937, to April 15, 1938, compared with the corresponding period last season, are as follows:— Chilled beef, 122,236 quarters (108,145); frozen beef, quarters, 66,238 (52,397); mutton, carcasses, 834,261 (738,689); lamb, 4.276.516 (4,104,490): pork, 347,900 (354,775); boneless beef, bags, 146,188 (76,543). Killings for export during the same periods compare as follows:— Chilled beef, quarters, 129,753 (103 587); frozen beef, Quarters, 66,129 (47,136); wether mutton, carcasses, 786,870 (741,781);-ewe mutton,, carcasses, 904,907 (586,044); lamb, carcasses, 7,489,727 (7,181,151); pork (porkers), carcasses, 292,138 (284,373); pork (baconers), carcasses, 204,182 (213,152); boneless beef, freight carcasses, 318.908 (216,197); boneless bobby veal, freight carcasses, 75,089 171,903); sundries, freight carcasses, 224,916 (186,663).
The Bank of- New Zealand, produce department, has received the following advice from its London office as at close of business this week:—Both demand and prices, for wethers are steady. Trade in ewes is slow. Smaller supplies of lambs have'caused prices to harden and the advance in prices has checked the demand. Larger supplies of chilled beef have cau r si d/.-P", c?sto weaken. -Wethers, light, 5d to.sJ.dPer lb- heavy, 4d to 4Jd; ewes, 2}d-to 4 MidiT lambs. 2's, 7 5-8 dto 7f d; B's, 7|d to 7 5-8 d; 4's, 7 l-8d to 7id; seconds, 7 3-8 dto 7 5-8 d; chilled hinds ,i 3-8 dto 4 7-8 d; chilled fores, 3 3-8 dto 3 5-Bd.
