FAREWELL FUNCTION
PUBLIC WORKS OFFICER
Officers of the Public Works Department met on Thursday afternoon to farewell Mr. D. S. G. Marchbanks,' designing engineer, who has resigned his position to become assistant engineer to the Wellington Harbour Board.
Mr. Marehbanks joined the Public Works Department in July, 1919, as a draughting cadet. He served at the head office, Tauranga, Arthur's Pass, on the Beaumont-Roxburgh railway, and on the Mangahao hydro-electric scheme. He was appointed assistant engineer in 1923, *and, after'working in districts in various parts of New Zealand, went abroad in 1927 to study engineering works in America, Britain, and on the Continent. Upon his return to New Zealand he worked for a time under the assistant designing engineer at the head office of the Department. In 1930 he was transferred to Arapuni, where he took a responsible part in carrying put remedial measures at the spillway. Turner, senior designing engineer, expressed the regret of the Department at the departure of Mr. Marehbanks. Mr. John Wood, Engineer-in-Chief and Under-Secretary, presented. Mr. Marehbanks with an inscribed cigarette case, a case of pipes, and a desk set from his fellow-officers. . -•,.
