ACUITY IMPROVED

ADDINGTON TRACK TOPICS

(Special from "Irvington.")

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day,

L. O. Thomas now has his team settled at Addington. Bonny Azure has been working in her usual attractive style, and she appears to be in fine order, but there is some doubt regarding Glenrossie's condition. He looks well, but his track work has not been particularly attractive.

G. McKendry has severed - his connection as first reinsman to- Mr. J. R. McKenzie's "Roydon Lodge" team, and he is again setting up as a public trainer at Addington. He has a number of young horses under his care, and although there is nothing of note in the team, he has some useful material to build on.

It 'is some time since Gallant Knight displayed his undoubted dash in public, and it was recently decided to give him a lengthy spell from racing; His early form indicated that he, would have little trouble in holding his own in the best classes, but he failed to carry on, and he should be .all the better for the course decided upon. Gamble has been troubled with unsoundness, and after his race at Ashburton, where he broke when well placed in the straight, he was very lame. His trainer has always held great faith in his capabilities, but it is possible that his racing career, is ended.

Although he has not , entered •■ the limelight to the same extent as have several in his present class, Moana Tama has made good progress, and he promises to pay his way during the coming week. He is in solid condition, and his track work has suggested that he will find little difficulty in staying out a fast-run mile and a half.

Blomfield, a young trotter; by Maxegin from Meb, and trained at Belfast by C, S. Donald, has the reputation of being a likely prospect in the near future. A bad beginning spoilt any chance he may have had at Ashburton last week, but he has a free style of moving, and should be benefited by the experience. An inclination to bore rather badly will retard Acuity's progress, but she has the speed and stamina to leave the maiden classes before longl When trained at Addington as a two-year-old she showed great promise before developing the habit of running in to the rails, but a change of tracks appears to have been of benefit, and she is slowly learning to go straight again. Mazaire, a well-bred four-yearrold by Jack Potts from Logan Chimes, recently had his first outing when he

gave indications of proving an earlywinner. A good type, he paces well, .and he will require little experience to bring him to his best. 1 T. G. Fox has taken in hand a two-year-old trotter by Rey de Oro from Carbinea, the dam of Norman Fox and Journeys End. Although few of his sire's stock have favoured the trot--1 ting gait, this youngster has displayed a fund of promise in the little work given him to date. . A two-year-old by Jack Potts from Olive Turmoil is developing into one of the most attractive pacers at Addington, and it should not be long before she is ready to race. During this week she showed a fine turn of speed in running the last two furlongs of a work-out in 31 l-ssec, finishing exceptionally well. A clcan-gaited and wellmannered filly, she gives every promise of proving above the average. Eflie Parrish has run some good races since she returned to Canterbury, but she appears to fall just short of her present company. However, she is honest and consistent, and is open to improvement. She was recently given a change of stables, being taken, over by R. B. Berry. Although he has failed to win since he returned to the active list, Satin King has survived several races, and has given improved showings on each occasion. The condition of his legs may prevent him from being subjected to the work necessary to bring him back to his best over two miles, but a sprint event may not be beyond him. At the moment, Waikari Jack is being given a spell, and it is not intended to race him again for some little time. It is probable that he will be gelded.Another poor display went to swell Refund's list of disappointing efforts when he contested the New Zealand Futurity Stakes at Ashburton. He has, failed to live up to his early. promise, and does not appear to be as good now as when he won. at his first two outings.- ■ ■ ■: : ; .:
