FINED FOR DESERTION
"There is an object in this. He gets his trip, to New Zealand for, nothing. This is a frequent, occurrence now,". said Sub-Inspector D. A. McLean in the Magistrate's Court today, when Joseph William Anthony , Greener, ship's steward, aged 24, pleaded guilty to deserting on December 29 from the Napier Star at Wellington. Sub-Inspec-tor McLean, said that the defendant surrendered himself yesterday. He was in employment, and was apparently a good citizen. A fine of £10, in default 14 ■ days' imprisonment; was imposed.' •:
