MORTGAGE APPEALS
EXERCISE OF RIGHT
POSITION INVESTIGATED
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
PALMER3TON N., This Day.
With regard to the reported statement of the chairman of the Manawatu provincial executive of the Farmers' Union (Mr. H. J. McLeavey) that when the decision of the Adjustment Commissions went against Government Departments, they appealed whereas private individuals accepted the findings, inquiries made from interested parties do not substantiate either statement.
Private individuals, banks, and local bodies all take advantage of the right of appeal where it is thought advisable, and compared with Government Departments, they form a substantial number of those appealing.
It was pointed out that in a very large number of cases no appeals at all have been filed either by Government Departments or by private mortgagees, banks, or local bodies. It was also stressed that a large proportion of the appeals are not made by mortgagees at all, but by farmer mortgagors, a fact which was not revealed at the Farmers' Union meeting.
