HIGH-GLASS PACERS

INTEREST IN VISITORS

(By "Arikl Toa.")

The arrival of six horses from Australia will stimulate interest in the Inter-Dominion Championships, which open at Addington on Saturday next, and the meeting promises to be one of the most memorable in the history of trotting. The greatest possible array of trotting and pacing talent will assemble, and the clashes between the visitors and the New Zealand horses should provide stirring finishes. Seven Australians have survived the final payment, namely Lady Childewood, Kolect, Dan's Son, Our Walla, Kernel Lv, Joy's John, and Picador, but no advice has been received of the arrival of the last-named. Lady Childewood has been in the Dominion for some three weeks or more, and has impressed trackwatchers with her free and easy style of pacing. A line on her prospects will be gained from her effort at Ashburton. today. Two others to whom the same applies are Our Walla and Joy's John, who were also down to compete. Our Walla is a shapely pacer by Walla Walla, who will be remembered for his splendid performances in match races against Harold Logan a few seasons ago. He has some fine efforts to his credit m Australia, and is confidently expected to prove one of the best of the visitors. . Kolect has a West Australian Trotting Cup to her credit, and is reported to be one of the best pacers in Victoria. He can both sprint and stay, and a long distance is not likely to trouble him. Dan's jSon was the grand champion at the j contests held at Adelaide last year, and, on this alone, is sure to command plenty of respect. Kernel Lv is i a plain-look-ing customer, but has a 1 good record across the Tasman. •• The Dominion is represented by the best horses in commission, but it must be admitted that on paper several of them appear to be out -.of their class in this company. It niay be found that sportsmen will pin jtheir faith, to a large degree, in U. Scott, Kings Play, Lucky Jack, and] Speedy Boy, the last-named an Australian-bred gelding now racing in the colours of the Dunedin sportsman Mr. G. J. Barton. U Scott is one of the speediest horses in commission, but he will not nave much on King's Play, who will improve as the carnival progresses. But these pacers have outstanding; records this season, and are sure tq provide the Australian contingent with' the strongest possible opposition. ' Owing to Our Walla and Kernel Lv both being members of G. Gath's Victorian team, an alteration" in the draw for the heats of the Inter-Dominion contests has been made. Kernel Lv will take the place of Dan's Son in the first division of the Second Qualifying Heat, and the latter will start in the second heat. >
