BRIDAL PARTIES

A "pantry evening" was held recently by Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Ellen_ in honour of Miss ' Doris Young, whose marriage to Mr. A. E. Hoare will take place shortly at Feilding. An enjoyable time was spent with games and dancing. A delightful "hand-round" supper was served; after which the bride-elect opened her many parcels. Among those present were Mesdames A. Bance, W. Blunt-Young, the Misses G. Williams, J. O'Neill, D. Wright, L. Nicholson. J. Rice, J. McGill, C. Ellen, the Rev.'E. M. McLevie, and Messrs. A. Bance, O. Lamb, H. Winstanley, W. Willis, R. Girling, T. Hoare, R. -Foster, and J. O'Neill.

A "gift afternoon" held recently by Miss J. Rice and Mrs. B. T. Martin was also in honour of Miss Doris Young's forthcoming marriage. Competitions were held, after which afternoon tea was much enjoyed, a special feature being a miniature wedding cake. The bride-elect received numerous gifts of a varied and useful nature. The guests included Mesdames F. Phillips, H. T. O'Neill, E. M. McLevie, W. Blunt-Young, W. V. Ellen, the Misses J. Wright, N. Allen, R. Thomas, J. McGill, P. Highet, A. Hickman, G. Williams, J. O'Neill, A. Redding, M. Pegram, and C. Ellen. A very pleasant surprise "kitchen tea" was given at 26 Constable Street recently in honour of Miss Florence Curgenven, whose marriage to Mr. Neville Raymond Knight will take place shortly. The evening was enjoyably spent with competitions, games, and dancing, and Mrs. T. Sim sang several solos. Mrs McMillan and her son, Mr. D. McMillan, supplied the music for the evening. The brideelect received many, useful gifts. Among those present were Mrs. H. E. Morris, Miss F. Curgenven, Mr. N. R. Knight, Mr. and Mrs. Knight, Mr. and Mrs. T. Sim, Mr. and Mrs. W. Lean, Mr. and Mrs. R. Rait, Mrs. E. Sullivan, Mrs. F. Collin, Mrs. E. Nicol, the Misses I. Knight, J. Collin, E. Large, Moore, R. Tonkin, M. Best, N. Sullivan, and Messrs. C. Knight, K. Knight, W. Curgenven, W. Howell, F. Hall, T. Wootton, .W. McCambridge, and S. Innes.

All women of Mount Victoria, Roseneath, and Oriental Bay who are interested in home-making and the training of children are invited to attend the meeting of the newly-formed Wellington East Branch of the League of Mothers. Mrs. H. W. Kersley, Wellington provincial president, will be the speaker, her subject being "Branch Membership; Its Privileges and Responsibilities." The meeting will be held in the Cambridge Terrace Congregational Hall at 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday.
