VALANTUA GOES WELL
(Special to tne "Evenlna Post.")
DUNEI.IN, April 7. There was a good deal of useful work witnessed at Wingatui tthis morning. The plough' and the course proper, with the trestles halfway out, were used for the fast trials; "' • "• .' The Otautau i candidate Spanish Lad went with High Glee 'over six furlongs in lmin 17 3-ssec. Both were, doing it nicely at the finish and Spanish, Lad gave further proof that he has.excellent immediate prospects. _ The maiden VBlantua, who- will also be at Otautau,-shaped in good style when put against - Janet Gaynor and .Roseman over .six furlongs on the course.proper in lmin 20 3-ssec. Janet 'Gaynor carried the other two along for ■ the first three furlongs, but they closed !on her approaching the turn for home, , where Janet Gaynor went .out wide. : Roseman actually finished' in front of | Valantua, but the latter was going just las well. ' The other Wingatui candidate for Otautau, Scotsden, was given, light : work. Strip'and Araboa. are not going |to the meeting. On the plough Delrain was going much better than "McHeath at the conclusion of a mile, the last six furlongs taking lmin 19sec. * McHeath did not go as well as on Tuesday morning, i Alma was kicked above the right knee when at the post at Waimate and ,two stitches had to be inserted in the wound. It is- not of a serious nature, but her trainer is afraid to work her and it may be next week before she is galloped again. This interferes with her preparation for the Great Easter, and A. E. Didham is not too happy about-the position. Janet Gaynor is now a definite starter in the GreafEaster, but.no definite riding engagement has yet been made.
