Special forecast for .Wellington:—

Moderate to strong north-westerly winds, with a change to southerlies tonight. Changeable weather and mainly cloudy, with occasional rain. Cooler tomorrow.

I The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for northerly to north-westerly winds north of Greymouth and Banks Peninsula. South-westerlies to southerlies will prevail thence southward, and a southerly change will extend over most of the Dominion by tomorrow morning. Winds will be strong at times in Cook Strait, but otherwise will be mainly light to fresh. The weather will be changeable, with scattered rain in most districts, and temperatures will still be mild. Conditions will improve later on the west coast of the South Island. Pressure over the Dominion has fallen since yesterday with the approach of a shallow westerly depression from across the southern Tasman Sea. This disturbance has moved very rapidly, and at 9 a.m. today the low pressure trough, was passing through Cook Strait and pressure was beginning to rise over the. South Island, with winds turning to the southwest over the'southern half. Winds yesterday gradually became northerly or north-easterly in direction generally, and during the night they were 1 strong in parts of Cook Strait. Temperatures are now cooler in the soutn, but generally moderate to warm and humid conditions have persisted. Scattered rains have fallen in most districts with some heavy falls on i,ne west coast of the South Island. Since 7 a.m. today there has been some improvement in the weather. Christchurch had fine weather yesterday with scattered cloud, the wind being a fresh north-easterly and temperatures mild. It was overcast, however, this morning, and some very light showers had .fallen. - Yesterday morning in Dunedin was warm and sunny with little wind, but it became overcast during the afternoon with a fresh north-easterly breeze The weather by this morning had changed to the south-west and a trace of rain had b?en recorded.
