GAZETTES. The fifth gazette of the season has now come to g hand and contains much interesting information. Apart from Se various alterations to handicaps, Mr AGF. Koss, New Zealand referee, has g yen many rulings in regard to noints which have occurred on the fawns -The various association tournaments held during the month make inSresUng reading and add to the popuSy of this excellent little journal Many and varied are the questions sent tato the editor-manager, Mrs. Rhodes Williams, all of which have been given 2 explanations. One more issue remains to complete .the season's of Gazettes and it is gratifying to report that; there, is. evidence ; that the paper is becoming increasingly, popular among both members and club officials, whose generous appreciation ot

its helpfulness is freely expressed to the editor. PLACING OF CLIPS. In a recent match a player when taking her turn found that the clip was still on a hoop already made, and was in the act of attempting to negotiate the next in order when the opponent called attention to what she considered to be an error. Neither of the players could agree as to the correct position of the clip. The rule' reads that "any clip found to be incorrectly placed shall be at once placed in its correct position, but should the players be unable to agree as to this, the actual position at the'time shall be taken as correct." In the above case, therefore, the clip remained where it was and the player had to make that hoop. INQUIRY. A player either in the backward swing or prior to the conclusion ofithe swing in making a stroke accidentally hit another ball with the back of the mallet. This is a foul, and is given in the annual under the heading of "Fouls," and reads: "Touch .With' the mallet or unlawfully move a ball other than his ball in making a stroke (i.e., in taking aim or in striking).'1 Of course, if the payer had actually concluded the swing and was in the act of moving forward then it would be a case of inadvertence, and the ball moved would be replaced without penalty. The penalty is only enforced when the ball is moved in the. actual stroke itself, which must include either the forward or backward swing. ASSOCIATION'S CLOSING. The usual annual closing function held under the auspices of the Wellington Association is to be held, in the Mayfair Cabaret on Wednesday, May 4, at 2.30 p.m.. As this is a most popular function and a fitting finish to the season it is anticipated that a large number of the Wellington associates will be present. KHANDALLAH CLUB.
