Special forecast for Wellington:—

Moderate but freshening northerly winds, turning: to the south-east again tomorrow.

Weather mainly fair and mild, but occasional showers probable.

' The v general forecast for . the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today fbr the ensuing twenty-four hours, is, for light to moderate and variable winds. Easterlies to north-eastei;lies will predominate in the northern half of the North Island, with southwesterlies to south-easterlies about and south of Cook Strait. The weather for the most' part will be fair to cloudy, but some scattered rain is still probable and there may be a few, isolated heavy falls in the North Island. Temperatures will be moderate to warm.

Pressure is now high and gradients are slight over eastern Australia, across the Tasman Sea, to beyond New Zealand, and the . depression which has been centred near Norfolk Island for some days has filled up. Southeasterly winds prevailed yesterday in the Cook ■ Strait ■ area, with . northeasterlies elsewhere, their force generally being -light to moderate. This a disturbance passed from the southern Tasman Sea on to the South Island.- ■ Although only slight, it. was sufficient to 'cause a southerly change to extend as far north as Timaru and to cause winds in the Cook Strait area .to turn lto the north and freshen. In spite-of the absence of any storm centre, the weather has been cloudy with scattered rain in most districts. Falls generally have been only light, but in a few places there have been some heavy falls, and a number of thunderstorms have occurred. Pakihira, inland from East Cape, reports a fall of 594 points, Rotorua one of 670 points, and 4ackson's Bay, in South Westland, one of 316 points. Fog was prevalent in many places this morning, especially in eastern districts. Temperatures in western and northern districts have been warm, and elsewhere mild.

In Auckland yesterday morning it was overcast, but during the afternoon and evening it partly cleared. Some light showers fell after midnight last night, and the weather this morning was again overcast. It has been warm, and humid throughout, with a moderate breeze from the nprth-east.

It was overcast in Wellington yesterday and for most of the night, no sunshine at all being recorded at Kelbum. There was a little drizzling rain early yesterday morning and again in the evening, The wind '"was a moderate to fresh north-easterly, but a 1 freshening north-easterly was blowing this morning. Temperatures, though much cooler than those of the preceding days, have still been.mild, the maximum yesterday being 68.7 degrees and the minimum 54 degrees.

Christchurch had overcast weather with intermittent rain until yesterday afternoon when the rain ceased, and since then the weather has improved somewhat. Winds have been light and variable, and temperatures have been rather cool

Except for a light shower early this morning, the weather in Dunedin has been fine and mild. A moderate northeasterly breeze blew yesterday, but the wind this morning had turned to the south-west
