A MESSAGE ON AN EGG

An egg is rather an unusual thing on which to write a message, but one has been used in that way by an American girl, the daughter of a farmer (says the "Manchester Guardian"). She began to wonder what price the eggs produced on her father's farm in lowa fetched when they were sold in the eastern States to which they were mostly sent. One day when she was packing eggs with her father she had an idea. She wrote her name and address on an egg, together with the request that the buyer would write and tell her what price he had to pay for the eggs in the town. She knew, that her father received only eighteen cents a dozen. In due time the. lowa girl received a letter from a Brooklyn girl. She stated that the egg with the message on it was amongst a dozen bought by her mother, who had paid sixty cents for them in Brooklyn. That was more than three times' 1 the amount received by the producer in lowa. Naturally, there was agreement on the part of the two fami.. lies that there ought not to be such a difference between what the farmer receives and what town families havfj to pay.
