Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., of Auckland, and Mrs. Levien left by the Monterey yesterday en route to England on a holiday visit.

Mr. S. F. Martin, of Wellington, managing director of the Texas Company (Australasia),- Ltd., and Mrs. Martin, were passengers to the United States by the Monterey which left Auckland yesterday.

M. H. S. McNicoll, who has retired from the position of chief traffic inspector of the Dunedin City Council atter 23 years of office, was met on Friday night by members of the Town. Hall staff and given an official farewell. On behalf of the staff, the town clerk (Mr. K. A. Johnston) presented Mr. McNicoll with an inscribed clock. Webster, recently private chaplain to the Bishop of Gibraltar, has been appointed vicar of Mangaweka, and will arrive by the Rotorua during the second week in May. The Rev.M. L. Underhill is expected ■to arrive from England shortly after Easter and will be instituted by the Bishop at Ohakune on April 26,

Dr. C. S. M. Hopkirk,-D.V. Sc, Wellington, will leave by the Awatea tonight for an overseas tour, during which he, will visit Australia, South. Africa, Great Britain, and the Continent, and from which he will return via the United States* of America. He will visit the main veterinary research stations in the various countries and will represent the Department of Agriculture at the International Veterinary Conference at Zurich and at the Empire Veterinary Congress at London.- Dr. Hopkirk expects to ba away from New Zealand for about nine months. 1 High honour has been .bestowed upon Dr.' Peter H. Buck, the New Zealandborn director of the famed Bishop Museumv Honolulu, reports the Honolulu correspondent of the "New Zealand Herald." The Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland has given him a diploma ot honorary fellowship in the institute, of which already he was'a member. It "is thought this is the first time a New Zealander has, been so honoured by the institute. Incidentally, the .' secretary of the institute is another New Zealander, Dr. Raymond Firth, anthropologist.
