MIDLAND (Ontario), March 25.
The Irish Sweep brought Charles Fenton, a garage mechanic, 2300 dollars, but his Evangelistic wife, disapproving of gambling, compelled Fenton to destroy the ticket and send a cable to Dublin that he would not accept the money. He had previously declined another offer of 3800 dollars for a half interest in the ticket.
Michael Meehan, aged 70, an Ottawa flour mill labourer, won. .150,000 dollars by having a ticket on Battleship. He had previously declined 3150 dollars for a half interest. He telegraphed his employers that his job was now vacant.
