RESISTED ARREST
"He appeared to be attempting to bite Constable Filzpatrick's leg. Constable Fitzpatrick could not put the man into the taxi or do anything, for this man's interference," said Constable Snow in the Magistrate's Court today when Leslie Wilson, ( a jockey and porter, aged 33, was charged, before Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., with obstructing Constable Fitzpatrick in the execution of his duty.
Constable Snow said that the first he knew of the incident was when he saw a policeman's helmet go spinning across Abel Smith Street. He proceeded, along the street to where a taxi was drawn up, and saw Constable Fitzpatrick trying to put a rather drunk man into it. He was prevented by the accused, who was on his knees on the road with both his arms around the constable's legs.
Evidence was also given by Constable Fitzpatrick, who said that the accused grabbed him by tfieT legs and tried to pull him away from a man named Brophy, whom he had arrested.
Wilson was convicted and fined £3, in default seven days' imprisonment.
John Michael Brophy, a labourer, aged 23, also appeared.before Mr. Luxford charged with disorderly behaviour while drunk.
Sub-Inspector X)'. J. McLean said that Brophy was in Abel' Smith Street at about 5.50 p.m. with two others acting rather foolishly, with the result that Constable Fitzpatrick spoke to them and told them to go about their business and go away home. The accused aimed a blow at th^ constable, and the two came to grips. The conl stable then placed the accused under arrest. /
Brophy was convicted and fined £3, in default seven days' imprisonment.
