PRICES FOR EXPORTS
FAVOURABLE PROSPECTS
[ Keviewing prospects for Australian principal exports the National Bank of Australasia, remarks that the future of price movements for any commodity is always uncertain, and, for wool and base metals, particularly so at the present time. "There are, however, certain favourable conditions which may lead towards stronger markets for those commodities. The reduction in raw wool prices should stimulate demand for finished products; world supplies of wool are not excessive, and some stimulation of trade in the United States might shortly be followed by a stronger demand for the raw material. Markets for base metals are influenced by a great variety of factors, and it appears that a world-wide revival of industry is necessary for their stabilisation at a somewhat higher level than the present. An important consideration is the extent to which low prices stimulate consumption, and, at the same time, limit -the outputs of inefficient producers."
