PRESENTATION TO CLOUSTON

; LONDON, February! 5. The Britannia Challenge Trophy, awarded recently by the Royal Aero Club to. Flying-Officer A. <E. Clouston (Motueka), was presented to him by Colonel Sir Francis McLean, a j vicepresident of the club, this week.l Several members were present at an informal ceremony, including Mr. |J. A. Mollison, | "The Britannia Trophy is awarded each year to the British subject? who, in the.opinion of the committee p the Royal Aero Club, accomplishes the most. meritorious performance in the air during the year," said Sir Francis in making the presentation. ), "The award for 1937 has beenjmade to Clouston in recognition of hi_ magnificent effort in the France-Syria-France air race, in which he finished second only to the Italian tearii. It should be remembered that Ihe'ltalian team was sponsored by the Italiai Government, whereas the Britishf effort was a sporting venture on the part of Clouston himself. '
"Clouston next proceeded to j establish records between London and Cape Town. His outward flight was accomplished in. 45 hours 6 minutes and the return flight in 57 hours 23 minutes. The flight to the Cape and bn?k was made in under six days, a most meritorious performance." ,j Flying-Officer Clouston, in reply, expressed his pleasure at the honojur conferred upon him. '-1 . In 1935 and 1936 the Britannia Trophy was awarded to Miss Jean Baiten.
