OVERSEAS MESSAGES

The following cablegram; addressed to Miss Mary King, daughter of the late. Sir Truby King, who resides in Australia, has been received from Buckingham Palace:—

"I have heard with deep regret of the death of your father, Sir Frederic Truby King, and 1 send you my heartfelt sympathy. I desire to express my admiration for his unbounded devotion to the world-wide cause of infant welfare. Elizabeth R."

From the Governor-General of Australia (Lord Gowrie) and Lady Gowrie: —

"We both deeply regret the death of Sir Truby King, but what a wonder: ful legacy his work nas left to the world. Please convey our sincerest sympathy and appreciation of his achievements to his family."

Cablegrams of condolence have also been received from Sir Charles and Lady Alice Fergusson, Lady Victoria Braithwaite, and from the London, Canadian, and Australian tnothercraft societies.

The body of Sir Truby King iay in state in the Pro-Cathedral for three hours on Saturday morning, with members of the Plunket organisations standing guard "at the coffin for ten minute periods. These watchers included the Dominion president and vice-president, presidents of Karitane centres and Plunket Society branches throughout New Zealand, Wellington president, vice-presidents and committee, presidents of Wellington suburban commit' tees, nursing adviser,' Plunket nurses, matrons of Karitane hospitals and Karitane nurses. There were three wreaths placed on the coffin, one from, the Government, one from Miss Mary King, and one from the president and executive of the Plunke"t Society.
