WOMEN'S CRICKET

NEW ZEALAND WIN

MATCH WITH WELLINGTON

With four minutes to spare, the New Zealand women's representative cricketers passed the 131 scored by Wellington at the Basin Reserve on Saturday and won by five wickets. What few mistakes there were were .compensated by several bright batting displays, notably that of Miss Corby, who started when New Zealand had lost two wickts for two extras and collected an excellent 65 unbeaten. Miss Hatcher, ■ who was with her at the start, also strengthened the positon with a competent 37. The effort of Miss Page, who scored 41 was the best in Wellington's innings, but Miss Harris batted steadily for her 25. Miss Pickering was devastating with, the ball, taking six wickets for 20 in sixteen overs, six of , which were maidens. Wellingtons '•: innings closed at 3.12 for 131. After both Miss; Fowler and Miss Holmes had failed to score and New Zealand's opening stood at two wickets for 2, Miss Hatcher and Miss . Corby settled down to brisk run-getting. Miss Corby nearly followed the opening 1 pair before^ she , got going, but she was dropped by Miss fill off Miss Sten-' berg at mid-on, After that, she did not look back, scoring freely on both sides of the wicket. When Miss Hatcher was stumped at 37 Miss Johns came to light with a solid 28. Wellington's total ■ was passed, at' 5.56, and stumps were drawii at «.• o'clock, .... . Details:— WELLINGTON.
