CHILD KILLED
LANDSLIDE STRIKES WHARE

AUCKLAND, February 13.
Trapped in a whare by a serious landslide at Bon Accord Harbour, Kawau Island, Walter Bennett, a three-year-old child, was crushed to death.
The child's mother, who Was in an adjoining room, was extricated by residents and' escaped unhurt. The v/hare was extensively damaged.
The fatality was a tragic feature of heavy storm damage at Kawau. There were serious slips all round the island., Torrential rains fell and a violent thunderstorm, the worst ever ex-
perienced, raged on the island. Residents of long standing state they have never been in such a storm. A small house in Schoolhouse Bay was surrounded by a fall of clay and the occupants of the dwelling were forced to leave the house and seek refuge on a launch. :
