CATHOLIC PEER
VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND
GUEST OF LORD GALWAY
I Having wanted to.come to New Zealand for a number of years, Lord Charles Dormer, 15th Bar6n Dormer, I arrived at Auckland by the Rangitiki from London on Saturday to spend about a month touring the Dominion by motor-car. Lord Dormer was in the 'Life Guards with Viscount Galway and for, part of his visit will be a guest of his Excellency (states the "New Zealand' Herald").
Lord Dormer, .who is aged 34, is one of comparatively few Catholic peers and he expressed considerable interest in the forthcoming centenary celebrations of the Catholic Church in New Zealand. He said he hoped they would be attended by complete; sue-
cess. ' ; \ ' The barony, to which Lord Dormer succeeded in 1922, dates back to 1615, the title being taken from a little village in Buckinghamshire. Lord Dormer's family has been identified with the Catholic Church in England for centuries ! and one of the present baron's ancestors, Jane Dormer, Was lady-in-waiting to Mary Queen of Scots. She married the Spanish Duke of Feria and her life was written by Henry Clifford, who was in ' the Duchess's service and accompanied her to Spain. The manuscript is still in the possession of the present Lord Dormer, having been presented by the author in 1643 to Charles Dormer, Earl of Carnarvon and Baron of Wing.
