STATE HIGHWAYS
MARLBOROUGH COMPLAINT
(By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post") BLENHEIM, This Day. A circular letter from the New Zealand Counties'' Association, read at a meeting of the Marlborough County Council yesterday, asked that accurate instances be given of ■ what the council considered to be expenditure on purely State highways in its'area. This gave rise to a good deal of criticism by councillors of the inadequate manner in which Marlborough State highways were being maintained and of the way in,which the district was being neglected compared with other parts of New Zealand. . j Councillors agreed that the position in the Marlborough district was ■ the reverse of extravagant, and that the Counties'' Association should be advised accordingly. "We should tell them that many necessary works in the district, for which mpne^y was placed on the Estimates, have not been put; in' hand during the current year," said Councillor W. J. Kennington. "While huge expenditure is being carried but on highways in different parts of the Dominion,' the Marlborough State highways are being neglected and their maintenance is not even adequate." . . , ■'-....
