GALE AT GREYMOUTH

SOME DAMAGE DONE

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, February 11. A'heavy northerly gale this afternoon, following a rapid drop in temperature, developed a cyclone character and shattered wireless poles, windows, and skylights. The electrical supply in the Cobden portion of the borough was interrupted, and in the southern portion, where the effects of the wind were worst, the lines were damaged. The overland telegraph line was damaged between Kumara and Otira. One fishing craft, the launch Helena, was kept for several hours outside the port by the gale, the crew having an anxious time.
