SYDNEY, February 11. The concluding swimming events at the Empire Games were held at the Olympic Pool tonight. New Zealand competed only in the medley relay. Results:— 110 YARDS BACKSTROKE, MEN. Oliver (Australia) 1 Kerr (Canada) 2 Taylor (England) 3 Two and a half yards; half a yard. Time, lmin 7.9 sec. Seven started. The time established a Games and an Australian record. 1650 YARDS FREE-STYLE, MEN. , Leivers (England) 1 Pirie (Canada) 2 Wainwright (England) .... 3 Twenty yards; thirty yards. Time, 19min 46.4 sec—a Games and Australian record. Seven started. Wainwright, Leivers, and Pirie were together in that order for 220 yards, the time being 2min 26 sec. When 440 yards had been covered, Leivers had gone to the front and established a comfortable lead from Wainwright and Pirie, who were together. The time to there was smin 6.lsec. Biddulph was then fourth. Leivers went on and gradually increased his lead from Pirie, while Wainwright dropped back, but he was still 20 yards ahead of Biddulph. Leivers spurted in his last lap and won comfortably. His time and that of Pirie, 19min 59.25 ec," were both below the Games record of 20min 3sec, established by Leivers during the heats. 330 YARDS MEDLEY RELAY, WOMEN. England i South Africa V. 2 Australia 3 Ten yards; three yards. Time, 3min 57.75ec. • ' : Five teams started. The New Zealanders, Misses McDonald, Dunn, and Leydon, were last. WATER-POLO. A water-polo match between Australia and the rest of the Empire resulted in a win for Australia by 5' goals to nil.
