BRITAIN
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, February 10. .ceferring to the increase in unemthe Prime Minister (Mr. Neville Chamberlain); answering a question in the House of Commons, said it was largely due to seasonal causes and was not of a nature to call for the initiation of measures other than those which the Government was already applying for the stimulation of employment. Questioned about plans in advance for measures to counteract a future recession of economic activity, Mr. Chamberlain said the matter had not been overlooked, .and the Government was now considering what further steps it could take in conjunction particularly with local authorities. At the same time, he thought it right to say that too much reliance should not be placed on the possibility of doing more by such plans than contributing in some degree to reducing the fluctua-j tion of trade and?«nemployment.
