PRESENTATION OF "ELIJAH."
In conjunction with the annual conference of the Methodist Church of New Zealand which will be held in Wellington this month, a presentation of Mendelssohn's oratorio "Elijah" will be given at the Town Hall on Saturday, February 19, by the combined Methodist choirs of Wellington, numbering 200 voices, under the direction of Mr. H. Temple White. An excellent cast of soloists has been engaged, the principal artists being Miss Myra Sawyer (soprano), Mrs.; Stanhope Dawson (contralto), Mr. Arthur Clark (tenor), and Mr. Russell J. Laurenson (bass), who will sustain the part of the prophet Elijah. Mr. C. W. Kerry will be at the grand organ. The dramatic fervour of "Elijah" never fails to appeal to of oratorio, and the intensity of emotion which pervades the whole of the music gives to each new presentation of the work a freshness and attraction which mark it as one of the highest expressions of this form of music. The performance on Saturday next should prove to be one of the.most interesting which has been heard in Wellington for some time, and it should receive excellent support from the musical public of the city. Booking arrangements are advertised.
